From 8pm thanksgiving night to 3am Black Friday I worked then went back for a 1-9 shift ( I got there early and they needed the help so I clocked in before hand a little bit) I was working. I have one thing to say to all you idiots who think that you can be rude and nasty to employees of stores on black Friday. YOU made the choice to go out and about at ungodly o’ clock in the morning. DO NOT take it out on us. For heaven’s sake. We do apologize that we ran out of stock within 3 hours of the doors being open. NO we cannot call the distribution center and have them deliver one item especially for you, no we cannot go drive to another store and look for said item. It’s Black Friday. We were scheduled to be there, you volunteered to leave your nice warm homes and go out there amidst the suicidal drivers and insane shopping cart clashes of the big box stores. … That is all. Actually it’s not all. Do not tell the poor employee heading into work for a second shift in 24 hours that coffee causes cancer. Take the cup away from me and the results will be far worse than a tumor. Okay. Now I’m done.
Yes, I have been quite scarce both here and on twitter as of late. I have a stack of books to be read, a list of reviews to do, and watching the frantic preparations of the ‘Holidays’ done by all around me except for family and friends. Expect upcoming posts about many things, from literary views to random rants of everything around me.
This is old, taken years ago with my first digital camera which was a cheap off brand. I still enjoy the photo, I never edited it this was simply how it turned out.
One of the more lovely places to go in this desert is Sedona. The red rock is a nice stark contrast to the green around the creek.
Is this what the puma (mountain lion, cougar, giant desert kitty cat) saw when stalking the human in the desert? I failed to get pictures of the prints that were near 4 inches (likely 3.5 inches) across in sand. I have no idea what the sand displacement is in foot steps but holy hell. I wasn’t about to stay and find out how big the kitty was.
A bit of sheer rock and this cactus was hanging on for all its worth. Somewhere in the middle of the desert. I don’t remember where, it simply was something to capture.
Gary Larson’s The Far Side comic was a staple in newspapers for years. Every family I knew had at least one of the books and the adults fervently attempted to keep their children from reading them… WHY?
Actually that might be a good reason… Humorous, but not something a parent wants to explain to a 5 year old. I digress.
For me though. It was something intriguing even at a young age I understood most of the word play and humor in them. Some went over my head. But I look back on them now having a collection of them and realized just how warped they were and still are. Animals terrorizing humans, monsters aliens, super intelligent farm animals plotting against the farmer and his wife. Nothing was off limits. Perfect for warping a young person’s humor along with Monty Python and the Muppets.
Are his comics dated now? Yes and no. I don’t think basic humor and word play ever gets dated. Some of the technology portrayed is. Gary Larson managed to bring a variety of attitudes and beliefs and make them lighter with humor, as well as slightly twisted.
